6 Ideas on the future of user interface design

User Interface | 10 June 2015

The digital world is constantly changing. It’s increasingly necessary for products, services and companies themselves to keep up with the crescent technological developments so they can meet their users’ requirements, which are also continuously being altered. Therefore, websites, applications and devices change, driven by each other. Here, at Hi INTERACTIVE, we consider that the future must be applied to the present and, in this article, we list 7 ideas that can make the difference.

1. The Importance of User Interface.

The technology, even the most successful in form, won’t be effective if it is not attractive and intuitive for the user. In fact, user experience is directly related with the user’s behaviour in face of a certain interface. That is why the importance of creative approaches is increasingly growing, contributing to the success of interfaces, for that creativity is what can make them practical and, at the same time, innovative.

2. More concentration

A notification ring on a smartphone can easily interrupt a conversation, deviating our focus. By working in design, we realised how the constant changes can alter the user’s behaviour and that these consequences can be either constructive or disruptive and must be taken into account.

3. Just like everything else, users change

It is impossible to deny the significant change that occurred with the swap from desktops to mobile devices. If, until recently, we were concerned solely about design and technology, the rules have changed: the game is more complex than ever and we must focus on the user. The proof lies in the fact that users relate a smooth navigation to a better experience.

4. Multi-touch interaction = Better interaction

The multi-touch technology is a great facilitator. It is thanks to multi-touch technology that we can do distinctive gestures such as stretching and grabbing. These gestures, inherent to human behaviour long before the digital era, allow a better interaction between users, the system and the devices.

5. Maximizing reality

"AR” or Augmented Reality is already a operating in several smartphone applications. However, it is still at an early development stage. Initiatives such as the Glass Project, by Google, have provided essential contributions in boosting and disseminating the AR.

6. Organic interfaces at a glance

Despite the fact that interface development is increasingly oriented to natural interaction, the rising organic user interfaces cannot be ignored. This is a very particular option that aims to ensure that the user is able to manipulate not only the shape but also the position of the device itself. Admittedly, it may take some time before this organic aspect is seen and used as a viable option, yet we are closer than we might think.
Many changes are still to come regarding the future of user interface design, but one thing is certain: traditional models are giving way to more advanced methods of work and we are proud to be part of that change. Contact us.
